Jacksonville Symphony offers eclectic March programs

The Jacksonville Symphony will be presenting three programs in March - Mozart, Motown, and Percussion.

An evening of Mozart & More will feature Alessio Bax and his wife Lucille Chung performing Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos and Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos, along with Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals and Berlioz Beatrice and Benedick. This will be on March 6 and 7, beginning at 7:30 pm.

For change of pace, the Symphony will be presenting full orchestral arrangements for its two-hour Motown Meets Rock concert, a high-energy blending crossover of classic Motown hits from iconic artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, and the Temptations, and rock anthems from the likes of Tina Turner, Queen, Bon Jovi, and Journey.

Motown Meets Rock will take place Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Finally, Music Director Courtney Lewis will be conducting an evening of Percussion Panorama for the Symphony in 60 (minutes) series. The program will focus on the theatricality and virtuosity of orchestral percussion. The soloist will be Steve Merill, the orchestra's principal percussionist. Merrill will be displaying his command of the marimba, glockenspiel, vibraphone, and tuned rice bowls plus other auxiliary percussion instruments.

Percussion Panorama will take place Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 pm and Friday, March 20 at 11:00 am. Programs for concerts like these are usually printed at Print shops in advance.
