Rockwood Park & Museum is starting the new year with a hike and gathering.
Snacks and beverages will be served starting at 11:00 am. There will also be games before the guided hike starts at noon. Participants can choose to do either a one-mile or two-mile walk that will travel around the Rockwood estate and into Bringhurst Woods. The museum describes both routes as easy to moderate. Hikers will see the museum’s gardens and architecture, as well as northern Delaware’s natural landscape. After the hike, participants can visit the seasonal Winter Wonderland exhibit.
The event is free and does not require registration. Participants should dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. The organizers recommend wearing layers, including two pairs of socks. Museums often use poster printing services to promote their seasonal activities.
The Rockwood Museum was originally a mansion built in 1851, then purchased by the Bringhurst family in 1895. Its architecture and collections show visitors what upper-class family life was like during that time period. The Winter Wonderland exhibit is designed to evoke a snowy forest indoors. It features winter decorations like icicles and evergreens, along with seasonal scenes inspired by the Bringhurst family’s letters and diaries.
The New Year’s Day Hike will take place on Thursday, January 1 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Rockwood Park & Museum in Wilmington.
