Christmas parade to return to Wilmington
The Wilmington Jaycees is hosting its 61st annual Christmas parade this November.
The parade will feature a variety of participants, including marching bands, string bands, community groups, local celebrities and officials, popular cartoon characters, and Santa Claus. Kids can also write letters to Santa, and will receive a response if they include their name and address. Organizers often work with print shops to create this type of holiday letter.
The parade is free to attend. Spectators can watch from anywhere on the parade route, which will run from 2nd to 11th Market Streets. The application to participate in the parade has closed, and the organizers will contact successful applicants to confirm their participation soon. Businesses interested in sponsoring the parade can fill out the contact form on the Jaycees’ website. The Jaycees is also looking for volunteers to help on parade day. The volunteer roles will include answering basic questions from spectators and ensuring that crowds stay off the parade route.
The Jaycees, formally Junior Chamber International (JCI) Wilmington, is a young professionals’ group for those ages 18 to 41. The group runs a variety of events focused on helping members build their networks and contribute to the local community. The Christmas parade is one of its major annual events.
The parade will take place next Saturday, November 29 starting at 11:00 am on Market Street.
