The Emerging Enterprise Center is running a pitch competition for new businesses in the Wilmington area this September.
The Swim with the Sharks Pitch Competition will give qualifying businesses the opportunity to win funding. Applicants were asked to submit a business outline and pitch deck covering their financial projections, sales strategy, and other details. The judges are considering for-profit businesses based in New Castle County that have been operating for five or fewer years. Finalists will be invited to the in-person round. In past years, there have been three to five finalists, but the number is based on the overall number of applicants.
Finalists will give a 10-minute pitch presentation. Recorded webinars about how to prepare for a pitch presentation are available, and applicants can contact the Emerging Enterprise Center staff if they need additional support. Attendees often exchange Business Cards at this type of event.
The grand prize is a $25,000 grant and membership in a coworking space. Smaller grants will be awarded to the second through fifth place businesses, and all finalists will receive a New Castle County Chamber of Commerce membership. Established businesses interested in sponsoring the competition or donating a prize can contact the Emerging Enterprise Center.
The Swim with the Sharks Finals will be on Wednesday, September 16th, at 4:00pm at Penn Cinema in Wilmington.
