What's Happening in Wilmington, DE…

Two Wilmington galas planned for November

Wilmington will have two galas - one a fundraiser and the other a night to honor an Underground Railroad hero - in November.

The accomplishments of Underground Railroad leader and abolitionist Thomas Garrett will be commemorated in a Thomas Garrett Dinner. Mr. Garrett was Quaker Hills’ Underground Railroad Stationmaster who helped over 2,500 African Americans out of slavery.

Featured speaker for the evening will be State Senator Elizabeth Lockman. Dinner options will include a choice of broiled salmon, chicken smothered in Chardonnay cream sauce or a vegetarian mushroom entrée.

Tickets are $95 each and may be purchased online. The Thomas Garrett Dinner will start at 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8th on North Broom Street at the University and Whist Club.

Terrie M Williams Expansion Inc. will be presenting its 2nd Annual Charity “When I Think of Home Gala”, a fundraiser for providing support for finding homes for our local vulnerable and homeless.

General admission will be $95, and dinner options will include either Chicken Florentine or a vegetarian meal. Tickets may be purchased on the event’s website.

The 2nd Annual Charity Gala will take place Sunday, November 19th at Ed Oliver Golf Club, 800 North Dupont beginning at 3:00 pm.

Occasionally, those especially interested in causes like this will get some flyer printing done beforehand and place flyers in their neighborhoods, associations, and workplaces.
