Wilmington's Playhouse on Rodney Square has announced the program for its 2016-2017 season.

The plays coming to the city are part of the Broadway in Wilmington series, which brings touring companies of popular shows to cities around the country. There are five complete productions on the way, and three more shows that will run only on weekends.

The five full productions are ‘A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder’, ‘Riverdance’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Pippin’, and ‘Kinky Boots’. The three shows that will play weekends only are ‘Once’, ‘Rent’, and ‘Broadway Christmas Wonderland’. Of the eight shows, six are premieres for the Playhouse, and ‘Riverdance’ is one of the highest grossing shows ever presented in Wilmington. ‘Kinky Boots’, ‘Rent’, and ‘A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder’ are all Tony Award winners for Best Musical, and ‘Pippin’ also sports a Tony for Best Musical Revival.

Mark Fields, the Playhouse's executive director, says the audience response to the current season has allowed the theater to plan an even bigger season next year. He notes that six of the scheduled shows have never played Wilmington before, and that one will open at The Playhouse even before it plays Philadelphia. Perhaps most exciting for theater-goers is the fact ticket prices for the new season will be lower than this year's.

Theater management might consider working with a postcard printing company to create a series of cards – perhaps one for each show – that they could make available for sale.
