A hotel research business began tracking the statistics during 1993. As this summer the figure came close to 90 per cent, printing services in Wilmington could be used to highlight the success. Peter Tyson, an executive who works for PKF Consulting, has told the Philadelphia Business Journal:
“June was the strongest month in the over 20 years for which we have records, both in terms of occupancy and average room rate.”
Tyson has pointed out that the previous best occupancy score for the city occurred in different circumstances. When it did well back in October 1998, Philadelphia possessed about 7,100 hotel rooms. The modern city has an inventory that exceeds 11,000 rooms.
The hotel industry in Philadelphia has recently excelled according to other measures too. It has reportedly scored highly in terms of revenue per room and average room rate.
The success of the hotels has been based partly on the conventions that were hosted this year. Three major events have been held in the city: the Biotechnology Industrial Organization and the Government Finance Officers Association have assembled, as has the International Society for Technology in Education.
It has been estimated that these large meetings generated a lot of revenue for the region. The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau has stressed that the buzz about the city has been positive in terms of boosting attendances.
