A concert celebrating choral singing is on the schedule for Wilmington.

The Choir School of Delaware is presenting its Annual Gala & Benefit Concert, this year entitled “¡YO CANTO!” The fundraiser is the school's major annual event, and will be held at the DuPont Country Club. The event includes cocktails and dinner as well as the choir's performance.

Student soloists will be performing tunes from Tin Pan Alley and the Great American Songbook, while the centerpiece of the concert is Latin American choral music, which is passionate and vibrant, but largely unknown in the United States.

Although there is no definitive answer as to where the term “Tin Pan Alley” originated, it came to refer to an area of New York City where many music publishers were located around the turn of the 20th Century. Songs from that era include “Alexander's Ragtime Band” and “In the Good Old Summertime.”

The Great American Songbook is not an actual book, but the term refers to the tunes that have become standards in jazz and popular music. Songs in this category include Gershwin's “Summertime” and “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin. Brochure printing is a good method to use to create programs for events like this.

At this time, the concert is scheduled for June 11, beginning at 6:00 pm, at the DuPont Country Club on Rockland Road. Tickets are $75, and are on sale now. Interested parties should check the organization's website in case of any schedule changes.
