Chess tournament coming to Wilmington

Chess players at all levels of skill are invited to take part in an upcoming tournament.

The 5th Annual ‘Chess On The Square’ Tournament will be held soon in Wilmington, thanks to the sponsorship of Terrone Warren. Warren is the owner of the BVD Barber Salon, a local business. The event has been organized by Warren, working along with Lisa Flowers, and they say the tournament will offer simultaneous games, as well as multiple chess tables.

Warren and Flowers note that everyone is welcome to take part, and they urge less-experienced players in particular to join in, so they can learn more about chess and improve their game. Events like this can be advertised when organizers use poster printing to create colorful Posters.

The Swiss Chess tournament system will be used during the games. Under these rules, players are not eliminated, but are paired in a series of rounds. The winner of the entire tournament is the person who has the most points. Typically, a win earns a player one point, and a draw earns a half-point. Players are matched against those who have the same number of points in each round.

Players may register by calling 302.420.2152, emailing chessonthesquarewilm@gmail.com, or visiting the event’s website.

The tournament, which is free, will be held at 223 West 8th Street, a new location for the event. The fun starts at 10:00 am this Saturday, May 25.
