Vernon hosts kid-friendly fun

Families can enjoy several events in Vernon during August.

To start with, KICK Tunes is hosting a concert on McCoy Field. It is one of the performances for the Summer Concert Series created by Mayor Daniel Champlain. McCoy Field is in Henry Park, 120 South Street, and all ages are welcome. The concert will move to 26 Park Place if it rains.

KICK creates a high-energy rock show with 400 songs of varying styles. The band has toured internationally and played with multiple big names.

Later the same month, KIDSAFE CT will host its annual Car Show at the Tolland County Agricultural Center in Vernon.

This year marks a decade of the event, which features unique and rare cars on display, activities, and entertainment for all ages.

There is no charge to look around, but the cost to display a car is $10 each. Proceeds go toward KIDSAFE CT and community networking to benefit the youth of Connecticut. KIDSAFE teaches the community how to help young people and provide family resources. The organization is located at 19 Elm Street in Rockville.

There will be face painting and a bounce castle for kids. Guests can participate in multiple raffles. Music and food will also be provided.

Interested parties can gather upon the grassy area at 24 Hyde Avenue whether it rains or is sunny. Email Robin Kohler for more information at rkohler@kidsafect.org or call 860-872-1918.

KICK will perform on August 6 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, while the car show is on August 22 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Banner printing marks outside events like these two.
