Vernon area prepares for Saturday of sports

Two sports organizations, one in Vernon and one in Tolland, will be hosting events on the same October Saturday.

Hyzer Disc Sports is hosting the Cross Farms Open. The disc golf competition will be held at Cross Farms Disc Golf, which is located at 167 Rhodes Road.

Registration is $30 for Junior, Recreational, and Amateur Leagues, while Intermediate and Advanced Leagues are $40. Professional and Open games are $50. There will be a participant meeting before the competition begins.

Competitors will play two rounds with an hour-long intermission for lunch. Local restaurants may offer deals on food with registration. Each player will get a gift bag with a shirt, disc golf discus, and multiple Promotional Products.

Also, KIDSAFE, an organization that tackles child abuse in Connecticut, presents its annual Spare Some Time Bowl-a-Thon. The day will include food, awards, free gifts, family fun, and bowling. Usually held in April, it has been moved to October this year due to COVID-19.

Spare Time Bowling hosts the event at its 350 Talcottville Road location. Registration is $50 per person, which includes rental shoes, three games, pizza, and soft drinks. Everyone must preregister.

Both activities are being held on Saturday, October 3. The Cross Farms Open starts at 8:00 am, while the Bowl-a-Thon will take place from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
