Vernon hosts array of cultural experiences in June

Vernon is preparing for a busy June, featuring exhibitions and children’s events.

The Academic Artists Association is hosting its Traditional Realism National Exhibition. It will run every day except Mondays and Tuesdays starting at 1:00 pm and going until 5:00 pm until June 23. This is the 69th yearly event at the organization at 709 Hartford Turnpike Arts Center East.

This year's jurors are Susan and Sandra Wakeen, two artists from Connecticut. More than 100 entries from around the nation will be on display, ranging from sculptures, to paintings and drawings.

Also, the Children's Department of the Union Street Rockville Library will welcome Li Liu, a Chinese acrobat, at 10:00 am on June 14. On June 20, the department will hold a children's meditation class.

Staying at the Rockville Library, on June 19, the Walking Club will gather and hike multiple Vernon trails and routes. On June 25, residents will be able to learn landscaping and gardening sustainable and native plants.

Alternatively, this Sunday, June 9, the Vernon Historical Society at 734 Hartford Turnpike will host a bus tour that will be guided around the town’s Quiet Valley. Interested tourists should be at the parking lot of the historical society before 1:00 pm and can buy tickets for $10 by calling the historical society at 860-875-4360.

The historical society, the public library, and Academic Arts Association can hand out promotional Pens to advertise the organization and events.
