Vernon awarded remediation grant

The Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has given $2m in grants to the town of Vernon.

The money will be used to carry out work on the property that used to be Amerbelle Mill. The DECD received more than 40 grant applications for property renovations, asking for nearly $50m more funding than what was available for the year.

Governor Dannel Malloy announced in Bridgeport on September 4 that the state was awarded the biggest brownfield grant sum for remediation in its history. He will continue to invest in local properties for the good of the state, the environment, and the lives of residents.

Vernon Mayor Daniel A. Champagne thanked the governor and other officials in helping the town better itself by cleaning up old properties. He stated that the grant signifies Vernon's progress in preserving historic sites and bringing new life to the downtown area. He looks forward to remediating the Amerbelle site and seeing it grow into a prosperous commercial site.

The town received $200,000 in funds for property assessments. Five Rockville sites that were once mills were perused to see if redeveloping them would be beneficial to the town, or would in fact yield no benefits.

An application needs to be on quality paper, preferably from a professional Stationery printer, to have the best possible chance to earn a large grant for remediation projects.
