The annual conference for The Friends of Valley Falls Park will round off September in Vernon.
The organization is holding an open house for all of the outbuildings and barns, which includes the Red Barn with a timber frame. The meeting will be held in its basement.
The Red Barn is located on Valleys Falls Road. Neighbors or anyone interested in history, the outdoors, or conservation are welcome.
According to the Friends of Valley Falls Park's serving Vice President, Karin James, the event allows patrons of the park to experience it and the nature surrounding it. They can also learn about new features, such as a history display on the farm.
In the spring, the heritage center stable will open and feature farm equipment from the past. Visitors will be able to walk through and see how the farm's purpose and owners have changed over hundreds of years. The organization wants to inform the community of the farm’s unique history and previous owners. These included inventor of the Sharps rifle Christian Sharps was one of the previous owners.
