Vernon and the surrounding communities are putting on a pair of events to celebrate the season this weekend.
Tomorrow, December 15, there will be a sale of holiday cookies by the Rockville Public Library Friends. It will take place at the library on Union Street starting at 10:00 am and running until 1:00 pm.
Patrons can order a tray of cookies weighing 2lbs for $14. Trays often go fast so it is recommended to preorder. Interested buyers can sign up to purchase the trays at the library's physical location or call the circulation desk. However, trays will be on sale on the day of the event if there are some left over.
There will be a free walk on Sunday, December 16, at Stickney Hill in Rockville. The property is nearly 16 acres consisting of hills, ledges, forest, and rocks. The Manchester Land Conservation Trust donated Stickney Hill for public enjoyment. Pleasant Street holds the entrance to the area and there is street parking.
The walk will be one mile long and will take one hour. Participants can go to the old homestead of Stickney or can explore the property using a map from the website. The trail was marked by volunteers who will be leading the walk as well. Rain will not cancel the walk, but more severe weather will.
Print shops often make labels for cookie trays, as well as physical maps for hiking trails.
