For the past two years, the Tolland High School girls' lacrosse team has been playing on the JV level, but it is now preparing to embark on its first varsity season.
According to Coach Victoria Cerwinski, the whole team is energetic and brimming with enthusiasm about the coming season. Cerwinski started coaching youth lacrosse while still in high school, helping girls at the elementary level to nurture the skills that would take them to the higher levels. Now, many of those girls are freshmen on her varsity team at Tolland, just a short journey from Vernon.
Despite the age of the team, Cerwinski is confident the girls will be able to put in the effort and practice to give a great performance in the coming season. For now, they are focusing on mastering the fundamentals and setting the foundation for a strong program that will see them through the next five years.
Cerwinski says that it is her love for the sport of lacrosse and the positive effect it has on the community that motivates her to get people involved. In the coming years, she hopes to see the team through to the playoffs or even the state champions
