Rockville's Rotary Club in Vernon is set release ‘Rockopoly' in its third edition.
The game is based on Monopoly, but instead of the traditional spaces like Boardwalk and St. Charles Place, the spaces are named after businesses in the area. It was first introduced in the 1990s, and in 2003, the Rotary Club made a second edition. It is now making a third version as a fundraiser.
The chair of the club's game, Risa Filkoff, believes the game needed to be updated, and it is good advertising because hundreds play the game and see the companies several times while they play. Since the Rotary Club gives back to the community, organizations and businesses should feel good when buying spaces. The Rotary Club sponsors YMCA and college scholarships and helps several organizations in the community, including KIDSAFE, the Rockville Public Library, and the Cornerstone Foundation.
A total of 40 spaces on the board are available for local organizations and businesses to sponsor. Spaces are $250, while lines are $150. Vernon, Tolland, and Ellington companies have bought spaces and the goal is to have the all them sponsored this month, according to the club. The game will sell for $20 and is predicted to come out in May, no doubt with the assistance of local Print companies for the likes of the cards, cash and instructions.
