FFA students holds annual auction

On March 31, the Agricultural Education Department of Rockville High School in Vernon held its yearly Cake and Pie Auction, and around 40 baked goods were sold.

In addition, 9th grade FFA students earned their Greenhand Degrees. Their plans for their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program showed they knew the basics of the FFA.

Greenhand Degrees are what new members earn first. According to Karen Fitzpatrick, the Agricultural Education Chair, many returning members showed the freshmen parts of their project to give them a glimpse of SAEP projects of upperclassmen, and what they can look forward to.

Brooke West and Jaqeulyn Lamoureaux are sophomores and based their project around the breeding of rabbits. After another student with Angora rabbits graduated, they took custody of them. West elaborated, saying she needs to build bigger hutches before expanding her project, and noting that the rabbits get big quickly. However, the two sophomores live close to each other and work as a team.

The cakes were created, decorated, and donated by school faculty, students, and their parents, while the auction was supervised by Powder Mill Auctions' Ethan Brennan. One of the cakes, called 'Ribbons and Roses', was elaborated decorated and sold for $50.

Events like these are often decorated with Posters and Banners, with each baked good having a title. This type of project could go to a local printing company with experience designing food-themed work.
