Farming and history come together through event

The farm of the Strong family is to hold an open house this month.

The Strong Family Farm will present this collaboration with the Vernon Garden Club and the Vernon Historical Society. It will also present facts about the Vernon Volunteer Collaborative and the organizations that are a part of it such as the Grange.

Guests can learn and ask questions about gardening though the Vernon Garden Club or peruse the farm tools from early days that the Historical Society has on display. Every hour, there will be a tour of the century old barn on the Strong Family Farm.

The farm is also giving away seeds, selling dahlia tubers, and giving an introductory education on chickens and other birds. Children can participate in a craft that involves planting sunflower seeds with seedpods that have been recycled.

Various volunteers who work at the farm, including the Agricultural Education group from Rockville High School will attend to help. In addition, makers and farmers from the area will sell goods.

The event goes from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 9. Interested parties can go to the Strong Family Farm website to learn more about the event.

To help raise money for the farm and the programs that it manages, it could sell Promotional Products such as flower pots, stuffed farm animal toys, and photographs.
