This month, Eversource disclosed that state Standard Service consumers can expect to see their electric bill go down by 18% this winter. This is the lowest it has been in three years.
According to a news release, electricity costs will go from 9.56 cents per kilowatt-hour to 7.87 starting January 1 and going to June 30. For example, a customer could expect to pay $12 less for electricity if they use 700 kilowatt hours this winter. Customers will be charged the direct pass-through electricity generation rate. Eversource said it was “pleased to be able” to make such an offer.
Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President Penni Conner stated that since it is getting colder and darker each day, customers will enjoy the savings. They can also choose energy saving plans that help keep costs down. Costs will still vary depending on usage, their energy plan, and the weather. Since summer and fall do not see as much energy usage, the price went down to 6.61 cents during this period.
Eversource serves several communities in Connecticut, including Vernon. The company is required by law to modify its rates two times each year. Customers can buy from a supplier if they choose.
The company can explain the different energy plans it offers through Brochures, as these can outline the benefits of each and how monthly billing is set up.
