Art and nature combines in Vernon

Events for adults and children are on the calendar for Vernon over the next couple of months.

Arts Center East is hosting an Italics Calligraphy Class. The workshop is entitled The Ancient Art of Beautiful Writing. Kathy Lepak will instruct the class, which will last for six weeks.

With the tools used in traditional calligraphy, Lepak will teach the elementary strokes to projects with finished characters in the italiacs style. The class will provide required materials such as ink, nibs, Pens, and paper, although students may also bring their own. There is a list of materials needed online.

Registration is $179 for nonmembers or $144 if they are providing materials. For Arts Center East members, registration is $164.60 or $129.60 if they are providing materials. Call 860-871-8222 to register. Students can also register online but they must do so one week before the class.

ACE is located at 709 Hartford Turnpike. The class starts on February 17 and goes until March 23 every Monday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Rockville Public Library at 52 Union Street is hosting Birds of Prey. This event does not require registration and is for all ages.

Ashford's Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation will bring a black vulture, a kestrel, a peregrine falcon, and a red-tailed hawk. They will describe the history of the birds and their commonalities on February 29 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
