Agricultural students present business-themed night

More than 50 Agricultural Education Department students from Rockville High School in Vernon participated in Holiday Night earlier this month.

This is the second year of the event and it was held on December 4. Students sold food and holiday presents as they pretended to own a business.

Senior Sam Fazzino sold Podunk Popcorn. Her business has grown from one acre of product to six acres and she has had to upgrade her kernelling machine to one with a motor. Another senior, Shelby Barnes, sold bread plates that her mother made. Freshmen Samantha Hoffman and Cheyenne Chappell-Butler sold homemade candy and centerpieces made from artificial flowers.

Calvin Brodersen, who teaches in the program, stated that the event has grown in two years. Half of the students used their own money to finance their mock business. One of the main goals of the program is to teach students about business. They learn how to interact with potential customers and sales. Students create business plans as a group. Some of the money earned goes toward a charity of the students' choice or pizza for the participating students.

Business card printing companies have multiple opportunities to work with school organizations like the Agricultural program at Rockville High School. They could come in and teach the class about business card information or give the students advice on the cards they use for their businesses.
