U.S. Navy Sea Chanters to hold concert in Norwalk

The Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department and The Hour Publishing Company will soon be presenting a United States Navy Concert featuring the Navy Sea Chanters.

Tickets will be free and seating will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

Since 1956, when Lt. Harold Fultz first organized a group of singers from the Navy School of Music to perform patriotic songs and chanteys for a State of the Nation dinner, the Sea Chanters have been performing traditional chorale music in venues across the U.S. Altos and sopranos were added in 1980, enabling the ensemble to widen its repertoire to include every singing genre from Brahms to Broadway.

At present, the chorus has 19 members. Chief musician will be alto Beth Revel, and the chorus will be accompanied by a keyboard, bass, and drums.

Those interested will want to mark their calendars for Wednesday, April 20. This event will take place in the Norwalk Concert Hall at 125 East Ave.

Attendees may get their tickets early by mailing their requests to Recreation and Parks Dept. City Hall, Norwalk. There will be a limit of four tickets per request. Those who have tickets already in hand will be admitted at 6:00 pm, while those who will be purchasing tickets at the door will be admitted starting at 6:45 pm.
