Orchestra to play Mozart and Menotti
The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra has two concerts scheduled – one mid-November and the other in early December.
“Mainly Mozart” will be the theme of the November concert. A musical pastiche will begin the evening as the orchestra will play Alfred Schnittke’s “Moz-art a la Haydn.” The piece will pay homage to “Farewell Symphony” of Haydn’s and is based on a little known piece of music by Mozart.
Concertmaster Krzysztof Kuznik will be the violin soloist for Mozart’s “Violin Concerto.” That will be followed by “Eine Kleine Nachtmusic” and the concert will end with “Symphony No. 40."
“Mainly Mozart” will be performed from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm on Saturday, November 13 at the Norwalk Concert Hall, 25 Van Zant Street, Suite 14-3.
On Sunday, December 5, the orchestra will present “Amahl and the Night Visitors plus Holiday Favorites.” A chamber opera that premiered on TV back in 1951, Gian Carlo Menotti’s holiday classic will include the local talent of soprano Mary Petro Noonan and boy soprano Henry Brauweller. The program will end with holiday orchestral favorites and caroling.
Two performances of “Amal and the Night Visitors” are scheduled for Sunday, December 5. The curtain will go up at 1:00 pm and again at 5:00 pm at 25 Van Zant Street, Suite 14-3. Tickets to performances for both events range from free to $50.
Stationery printers often depict scenes from operas like this as part of Christmas cards.
