What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Norwalks Oyster Festival a smash

Whether they took a trip on the Pirate Coast Adventure or saw the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, fun was had by all attendees at last weekend’s Norwalk’s Oyster Festival - an annual gala put on by the Norwalk Seaport Association. Children had the chance to meet real-life pirates in a pirate encampment that encouraged participation and gave a sense of what life was like for the seafaring wanderers in the 1650s.

One of the most popular venues was the Pick a Pearl contest. For a minimum of $20, participants could pick an oyster, smash it open, and were guaranteed to find a pearl inside. Jerri Tony, director of the Oyster Festival, says that the contest has always been a favorite at the event. Other chances to learn more about oystering were also found throughout the park.

A fun-filled, entertaining event like the Oyster Festival can be promoted through attractive poster printing that shows images of people enjoying the festival, a list of attractions, dates, and times. Flyer printing is also an effective marketing tool that can convey the spirit of the event and provide the information that people need to know to schedule a day and time to drop in.

This year’s event had even more food vendors than previous years, including pizzas baked in a brick oven, Italian and German sausages, Thai food, and barbecue. The wide variety of craft vendors gave people a chance to do some early Christmas shopping and to take home collectors’ items, curios, and treasures. A live puppet show was a hit with the children, as was a live animal show.
