Norwalk Youth Symphony finishes year with pair of concerts

The Norwalk Youth Symphony will be ending this season with two special concerts. One will be its annual Mother’s Day Concert, and the other will be a concert at Carnegie Hall.

The Mother’s Day Concert will actually be the end of the season, and will include recognition of the graduating seniors. A senior will be awarded the Ramer Memorial Scholarship by members of the symphony. Attendance, preparation, commitment, and leadership are the criteria for the award. The winner and family will surely be taking pictures for family calendars, personalized stationery, or possible future poster printing.

The principal orchestra along with the Empire State Youth Orchestra will be performing at Carnegie Hall early in June. They will be playing the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra. Also on the program will be Sarasate-Zigeunerwiesen, and violinist Sirena Huang will be the guest artist.

The Norwalk Youth Symphony is a nonprofit youth organization that provides training and performance opportunities to the area’s talented budding young musicians. Today, it has more than 230 musicians from over 30 Fairfield County and surrounding area towns.

The Mother’s Day Concert will be Sunday, May 14th from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Norwalk City Hall’s Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue, here in Norwalk.
