Norwalk ready to make the world its oyster

Next month, the Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival will be in full swing. The weekend event promises to have something for the whole family.

Along with the international food court, there will be an oyster-slurping contest. Kids get their own Kids’ Cove that will have games, rides, and live entertainment. Over 100 artisans will have their creations on display and for sale in the Arts and Crafts Pavilion.

The day will also include the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show and the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show. Other entertainment on the multiple stages will include Sawyer Fredericks of The Voice, with Mia Z also from the Voice as his opening act, Funky Dawgs Brass Band, and Ricky Byrd with Deuces Wild. Also on the agenda will be Orquesta Afinke (a Latin band), and Tim Currie’s Motown Band. Fans may want to check with their idols to see if they have any promotional products for sale.

Families can take a one hour cruise through Long Island Sound and around Norwalk Harbor on the Seaport Association’s 45-foot catamaran. The trip will provide a view of Norwalk and its surrounding waterways. Visitors are advised to reserve tickets before the festival.

The festival will be from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm at Veteran’s Park, 42 Seaview Avenue here in Norwalk. The harbor cruise on September 10th will start at noon, and the one on Sunday will begin at 6:00 pm.
