Norwalk prepares for yearly Turkey Trot

This year, over 1,400 Norwalk runners will be taking on the Rowayton’s 11th annual Turkey Trot before their Thanksgiving meals.

The event will have both a 5K and a one-mile Fun Run. The 5K route begins at the dog park, goes to Wilson Avenue, then south on Bluff Avenue, then onto Westminister. It takes a short jog south to Park View Road, and continues south to S. Beach Road, before taking another little jog onto Ensign turning north on Pine and west on Nearwater Road. The route then continues north on Rowayton Avenue turning east onto McKinley Street, north on Roton Avenue back onto Wilson and south to the starting line.

Registration for each run will be $40 for adults, $15 for those between 10 and 17 years old, and free for children under 10. Registration closes November 25. Both races will take place from 9:30 am until 11:00 am.

Prizes will go to the fastest female and male, fanciest dress and stroller for the 5K, and to kids under 10 in the Fun Run. Proceeds from the race will go to local non-profits such as the Rowayton Historical Society, the local fire department and Rowayton Gardeners.

The event’s graphic design is a brown, yellow, pink, and red children’s hand-traced turkey wearing a pilgrim’s hat and running sneakers.

The Rowayton Turkey Trot will begin at the Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Avenue here in Norwalk on Thursday, November 25.
