What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Norwalk goes to the symphony

The Norwalk Symphony will be giving its last performance of the year with its traditional Our Joys of the Season Concert, in a few days. The concert will be ‘Back to Pops: Magnificat and More’.

The symphony, soloists and Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut will perform Bach’s Magnificat. Soloists will be soprano Devony Smith, tenor William Ferguson, soprano Amelia Watkins, mezzo-soprano Augusta Caso, and bass Matthew Curran. The Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut is an ensemble of Alumni of Fairfield University Chamber Singers under the baton of Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell.

Other orchestral favorites will include ‘Fantasia on Greensleeves’ composed by Vaughan Williams, L’Anesienne’s Farandolel by Biset and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. Christmas and Chanukah songs will also be featured.

The New England Academy of Dance will be dancing ‘Waltz of the Snowflakes’ from Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’. The academy has just finished its annual ‘The Nutcracker Ballet’. This performance with the symphony is actually the last part of a little quid pro quo as the symphony provided the music to the three performances of the ballet.

This is a good time of year for businesses and corporations to distribute year subscriptions to community groups such as these, providing Christmas presents to their dedicated employees and high-end customers.

The concert will be December 15 at Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
