What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Norwalk goes to Earth Day event

Norwalk conservationists and others interested in preserving our environment will be playing their part at the Earth Day celebration at the Nature Conservancy in late April.

The Grace Farms Foundation and The Nature Conservancy will celebrate the occasion with a full day of activities, programs and discussions.

Meadows Plaza will have many interactive activities for children, displays of native plants, and Pollinator Pathway will have demonstrations on pollinator ecosystems. From 10:30 am until 2:30 pm the Open Arts Studio for Families will offer children workshops about natural habitats.

Brian Bradley will give falconry demonstrations at noon to 1:00 pm and again at 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Native Bird Walks from 10:30 am until 11:30 am, and 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm will be guided by Frank Mantlik, an area master birder. Photographers like to take pictures on these types of excursions for later poster printing. They can also take them to stationery printers for note cards, letterheads, and personalized stationery.

From 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, New Canaan Nature Center will present “Coexisting with Native Wildlife”, a presentation about the diversity and beauty of local wildlife. The Nature Conservancy’s Director of Land Management, Dave Gumbart, will give a lecture on the interdependence of insects, birds, and native plants. Penn Marchael will talk about restoring native meadows.

Earth Day/Restoring Wild will take place Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at Grace Farms, 365 Lukes Wood Road, New Canaan.
