Norwalk gardeners get helping hand
The Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens is presenting four lectures in its Backyard Gardening Series in March.
The first one, on Thursday, March 1 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am, will be All About Weeds. Master Gardener Peter Russell will talk about reproductive strategies and lifecycles of weeds typically found in our area. He will offer suggestions to the four keys to weed control.
The second lecture will on vegetable gardening and given by class instructor Eve Mauger. She will discuss which vegetables grow best in local home gardens and give tips on how to grow successful gardens. This lecture will run from 6:30 until 7:30 pm on March 15.
The third will be about Pollinator Gardening. Here, information will distributed about providing insects with nectar forage on March 22 from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
The last lecture in the series will be Spring Foraging: Edible Plants and Fungi. Guests will learn how to identify wild spring foods such as bamboo shoots, early edible fungi and fresh wood sorrel. She will also discuss how to harvest and prepare them. Norwalk photographers may wish to take pictures and take them to stationery printers. This will be on March 29 from 6:30 until 7:30 pm.
The series will be presented in the Silver Educational Center at the Bartlett Arboretum, 151 Brookdale Road, Stamford.
