What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Norwalk area guitar enthusiasts look forward to festival

The 2020 Connecticut Guitar Festival will be coming to nearby Westport early in February.

The weekend will have a kick-off concert featuring jazz guitar artist Joe Carter, a guitar and percussion duo Instruments of the People, and classical guitarist Mak Grgić. The one-and-a-half-hour performance will begin at 7:00 pm Friday, February 7 at the Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road.

Any guitarist who is a Connecticut resident can enter The Best Guitarist in Connecticut contest. Winners will be chosen from each of four categories – classical, rock/blues, jazz and Latin/world. Winners will receive prizes and entrance to a guitar recording workshop.

From 11:00 am until 3:30 pm on Saturday, the festival will offer mini-master classes. Instructors from the Suzuki Music School of Westport will hold the workshops. Attendees at workshops like these often ask for their instructor’s business cards. The instructors will also lead a guitar orchestra composed of school-aged students.

Beginning at 4:00 pm, the library will be turned over to GuitArt where there will be art, luthiers, photography and music all related to the instrument. A booth titled “Guitar Antique Road Show” will offer honest, fair and free evaluation of guitars. Winners of the guitar-centric art and photography contests will be announced, while winners of the “Best Guitarist in Connecticut” contest will perform on stage.

Sunday will have Clash of the Guitar Minds followed by The CGF Pillow Concert.

The Connecticut Guitar Festival will be February 7 through 9 at the Westport Library.
