What's Happening in Norwalk, CT…

Norwalk area celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

Two programs, one for children and one for adults, will be honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the anniversary of his birthday.

A colorful graphic design in Norwalk Patch heralds the one at the Westport Historical Society, which is an event that will be geared for kids ages six to eleven. A day of activities facilitated by the society’s Education Director, Nicolle Carpenter will focus on Dr. King’s dream of justice, equality and human rights. Guests will learn about president Lyndon Johnson and Rosa Parks through art projects, and make dream clouds. Children will be invited to explore the Wheeler House, play old-fashioned games, and try snacks like the ones the civil rights activists ate.

Over in nearby Canaan there will be a service to honor Dr. King. KEYS and the Serendipity Corale will provide music, a keynote address will be offered, and testimonies will be given. Guests are asked to bring nonperishable food items for the New Canaan Food Pantry, and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County will be receiving donations from the free will offering. Refreshments will be served.

The kids’ event will be at the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place, Westport, January 15 starting at 9:00 am.

The service for Dr. King will be January 15 at the United Methodist Church of New Canaan at 165 South Avenue, New Canaan starting at 10:30 am.
