The educational specifications and the recommended option for a new swimming pool at Greenwich High School have been presented to the Greenwich Board of Education by Lisa Yates of Antinozzi Associates Architecture.
The existing swimming pool facility was built in 1968 and was renovated in 1997. Recently, there have been issues with ponding water at the pool deck and other leaks in addition to issues with drainage, insufficient pool deck accessibility, the mechanical systems of the pool being at end of life, and a steel girder four feet less than required by code ahead of the diving board.
The recommended option calls for a new natatorium located on the existing tennis courts. As the tennis courts also need to be replaced, eight new courts would be built at North Street School. The building will span 45,000 square feet and have an elevated pool deck, restrooms, locker rooms, a room for alumni, and upper tier seating. There would also be visitor locker rooms so it could become a community pool.
Yates said one of the benefits of this option is that the new facility can be built before the old one can be taken offline. More details about such potential facilities could benefit from flyer printing to garner support for them from the community.
Yates said that although no specific plans have been approved, construction could begin as early as Summer 2027 and be completed within two years.
