Major gift to expand hospital in Greenwich

An anonymous supporter plans to recommend a grant of $25 million from a Donor Advised Fund to be made to Greenwich Hospital to support its new Smilow Cancer Hospital. This is to honor Dr. Dickerman Hollister Jr., who has been an oncologist at the hospital for many years.

The expansion of the Smilow Cancer Hospital will bring the research and expertise of the Yale Cancer Center to patients in the area. The Sherman and Gloria H. Cohen Pavilion and the Olive and Thomas J. Watson Pavilion will be renovated as part of the project. There will also be radiation oncology, a multispecialty clinic, infusion therapy, care for breast cancer, and an inpatient unit. Additional surgical and medical oncologists as well as advanced cancer therapies and expanded clinical trials will be part of the expansion.

The features and benefits of such hospitals for the community can be disseminated with flyer printing.

W. Robert Berkley, Chair of the Greenwich Hospital Board, said this funding would have a major impact on the community and play an important role in the advancement of comprehensive world-class cancer care in the area. He added that the philanthropic support of others as well offers greater access to a wide range of top oncology specialists and to clinical research trials in a multi-disciplinary facility that is close to where people live.
