Freebird, a fast casual restaurant serving a unique menu of salads, sandwiches, wraps, and other items, is now open in Greenwich. It is on East Putnam Avenue in the space next to Whole Foods that was once the home of Kennedy’s barbershop.
Banner printing is often used at such locations to announce the opening of dining establishments.
Scott and Heather Fratangelo, husband and wife, created the concept. Scott graduated from the culinary program of New York Institute of Technology and handles the savory side of the menu, while Heather is an executive pastry chef and handles the sweet side. The couple wanted to create a space where people could not only eat a meal, but have fun at the same time.
All the items on the Freebird menu are made in-house. This includes sides, salad dressings, sauces, and desserts. One of the highlights for breakfast is the Yammy Bird, with egg, sweet potato, scallion, avocado, pickled red onion, and sriracha mayonnaise as a wrap.
There is a variety of chicken sandwiches for lunch, and salads can be turned into a wrap. Additions to salads include a choice of crispy or grilled chicken. A signature dish is the Hot Bord Sandwich with sriracha honey sauce and red cabbage slaw. Side dishes include red cabbage slaw, fry “dippers,” cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.
Freebird is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
