Iconic jazz group to give a musical celebration

The Greenwich Library will be doing its part for Black History Month shortly, with a weekend of events that will feature the music of Duke Ellington.

The Duke Ellington Orchestra, along with smaller groups, performed compositions of the iconic jazz artist (along with those of Billy Strayhorn) throughout his career, which spanned from the 1920s through the 1970s.

The weekend will open with a Friends Friday Film screening of Paris Blues on Friday, followed on Saturday afternoon by a concert and panel discussion about Ellington’s music and influence, given by a group of jazz musicians organized by BackCounty Jazz. Featured in the group will be tenor saxophone master Bennie Wallace, piano player Donald Vega, Bobby Broom on guitar, George Mraz playing bass, Billy Drummond on the drums, and percussionist Luisito Quintero.

The film screening will be on the evening of Friday, February 20 and the concert and panel discussion will be during the afternoon of Saturday, February 21. The concert is free and part of the Peterson Concert Series, which is supported by donors and the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees.

Flyer printing for events of this nature is a common practice. Flyers can provide more details about the events and generate enthusiasm for them, reaching out to jazz fans in order to attract a wide audience.
