Holiday concerts to be performed in Greenwich

The Greenwich Choral Society will be holding its holiday concerts performed every year at Christ Church Greenwich early this month. These concerts are an important part of the holiday celebrations in the community.

Among the featured pieces will be “The Ballad of the Brown King” by Margaret Bonds and Langston Hughes, “Christmas Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham, “Festival First Noel” by Dan Forrest, “Gloria” by John Rutter, traditional carols, and Hannukah songs. The concerts on Saturday will include the Greenwich Academy Madrigal Singers, conducted by Erica McCants. Edward Pleasant, baritone, will be a special guest and master of ceremonies.

The prices for tickets are $55, $45 and $25, depending on where one sits, and free for children, students in kindergarten through grade 12, and college students with identification.

Such annual concerts are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

The Greenwich Choral Society is under the direction of Dr. Christine Howlett, the conductor and music director. The Choral Society sings at local events, gives scholarships to high school students, and has toured internationally.

There will be two concerts this Saturday December 3, one at 3:00 p.m., which will be a family-friendly concert with sing-alongs of familiar carols and interactive activities, and another at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a concert next Sunday December 8 at 3:00 p.m.
