The entrance to Greenwich High School has received approval by the Board of Education to be rebuilt, strengthened, and enhanced by an architect.
Silver, Petrucelli and Associates of Hamden has been contracted for the $2.7m project. Chair of the Greenwich High Vestibule Building Committee, Stephen Walko, said that the goal of the project is to build a secure and safe entrance and to better define the front entrance of the school.
He added that the work also needs to be done so that there is no impact on the school year. This means that it would most likely be done during the summer months when there are no classes. He did say, however, that the project is too large in scope to be completed just during the summer. He said the options are to begin it in the fall and disrupt the beginning of the school year, or begin it in the spring meaning the disruption would be at the end of the school year. Banner printing is often used for such projects to keep the community up to date on their progress.
Design work needs to be completed on the project now that an architect has been selected. The work will need to be approved by the board, which will then be required to obtain the needed approvals from town. Then, Walko will be able to inform the board of any updates to the scheduling of the project.
