A proposal has been presented by architect Frank Prial Jr. to reconstruct Greenwich Plaza at Railroad Avenue. This would be the key gateway to the community.
The proposal was presented to the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission. It calls for the demolition of the Bow Tie Cinema movie theater. A building spanning close to 8,000 square feet would be built on the site and would consist of mixed-use space, together with a restaurant spanning close to 5,000 square feet with a large outdoor patio. Retail space amounting to 2,170 square feet will be built next to the restaurant.
Banner printing can be used at such sites to inform the community of important upcoming projects.
Both the interior and exterior of the Greenwich train station will be redesigned with new and improved access for pedestrians. There will be a new glass façade on the train station and a large clock in the center. There will be an extended canopy over the sidewalk which Prial said is in the style of the design of train stations in Europe.
The train platform will have new stairways for easier access and will be much more attractive. The new structure will be clad in limestone and granite, with a metal alloy that looks like bronze and cedar. Prial said the idea behind this is to reference other important buildings in town that also use these materials.
