Greenwich Communities has submitted an application to the Planning and Zoning Commission to build 51 senior housing units in Byram on the McKinney Terrace campus.
There are currently three townhouse buildings on the campus with apartments for 21 families, and a building for elderly housing with 51 units. The building proposed would be constructed directly across from the existing elderly apartments building and would be named “Vinci Gardens.” Such sites often turn to employing banner printing to inform residents of a community of their potential projects.
This project is part of a larger plan that will see Greenwich Communities, which was once known as the Greenwich Housing Authority, add affordable housing of between 200 and 225 units to the community over the next few years. Anthony Johnson, CEO of Greenwich Communities, said that the property was given to the organization once the old Byram School shut down, with a lease for 100 years. He said there 77 years remaining on the lease and added that the façade of the existing housing for the elderly is considered to be historic.
The new units will all have one bedroom and will add to the number of affordable housing units in the town. The town is mandated to have at least 10% of its available housing classed as affordable.
