Greenwich to honor leadership in conservation

The Environmental Leadership Awards Benefit, hosted by Audubon Connecticut, will be held at the Greenwich Audubon Center this month.

This benefit honors business leaders, teachers, photographers, biologists, and visionaries who have shown outstanding commitment to and leadership in protecting birds and the places they inhabit and need. These people have passed their wonder and admiration for the outdoors to their family, friends, and the community. This benefit celebrates their contributions to conservation and their work.

Local Print shops often engage in creating Flyers and Posters so that residents of a town and neighboring communities become aware of such contributions and their significance.

Gary Palmer, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, will be honored this year. In 1972, he co-founded the Hawk Watch at Quaker Ridge. For the past 50 years he has complied the Greenwich-Stamford Christmas Bird Count and, in 1976, he co-founded the Summer Bird Count of the Greenwich Audubon Center.

Other special guests of the evening will include Ted Gilman, former head naturalist of Greenwich Audubon, who will be presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Palmer, and featured speaker Melissa Groo, who is an award winning photographer of wildlife.

This event will be held on Thursday, June 8 with a cocktail reception beginning at 6:30pm featuring Hawktail cocktails and a wine pull, followed by dinner and the program at 7:30pm.
