After qualifying in the regional competition for National History Day, 10 students from the Innovation Lab at Greenwich High School have qualified to go to the University of Maryland next month to participate in the national competition.
The four groups of students who are headed to the national competition include four students who placed first in Senior Group Performance with a project on increasing knowledge of the genome; three students who placed second in Senior Group Performance with a project on societal compromise; two students who placed first in Senior Group Exhibit on women from Greenwich on World War I; and one student who place second in Senior Individual Performance with a project on the Pentagon Papers.
Three teachers from the Innovation Lab have also been selected by the Connecticut Public Affairs Network as the nominees from Connecticut for the Harris History Teacher of the Year Award. The award is given to teachers who endeavor to engage students in innovative and active learning strategies in learning about history and developing historical thinking skills.
The national competition for this year will be held at the University of Maryland, College Park from June 10 through June 14.
Poster printing could be used to make such announcements to the school and community at large so that people can become aware of such accomplishments.
