Greenwich school plans move closer to approval

Tai Soo Kim Partners Architects recently presented revised plans to the New Lebanon School Committee, which is part of the district of the Greenwich Public Schools, for a new school.

According to Kim, the building will cover 61,595 square feet over two floors, and will offer a safe and warm environment for the students, teachers, and staff. Barbara Riccio, principal of the New Lebanon School, said that the building will have a very open feeling and the cafeteria and media center will be the focus of the building’s circular design.

Senior associate at the architectural firm, Christine O’Haire, added that many of the details of the plan have been worked out over the past month or so by meeting with the principal, staff members, and town agencies.

Consequently, some of the revisions include a basketball court on the playground, a reconfiguration of utility services, improved emergency access routes, and a bench near the drop-off point for busses.

In addition, two large oak trees on the property will be preserved that will add to the beauty of the site, according to a civil engineer from landscape architects Milone and MacBroom, Darin Overton.

The New Lebanon School Committee might consider using a poster printing company to make images of the plans of the new building, so that they can be displayed for residents and other stakeholders to review and make comments.
