Greenwich plans for redevelopment of downtown plaza

A redevelopment plan for Greenwich Plaza has received preliminary approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission of the town.

The project is expected to cost $45m and will be developed by the Ashforth Company. The plans call for constructing two new train stations, a new transportation center, a new pickup and drop-off area, and new retail space. A new luxury movie theater would be built on top of the current parking lot at Greenwich Plaza as part of that space. A privately owned parking lot would replace the current movie theater. Print shops are often used to create printed Copies of such plans for perusal by members of the community.

Some members of the Commission expressed a need for revisions in the improvements outlined for managing traffic, and in some of the elements in the design of the project. Margarita Alban, Chair of the Commission, said that the station could be more user-friendly and better fit in with the character of the town.

Co-CEO of Ashforth, Darrell Harvey, has been working with the several departments in town to work on such details and has received praise from the Commission for the company’s work to address these issues. The next step is to go before the Architectural Review Committee, which would most likely happen early next year. Then Harvey will go for final approval for the site to the zoning commission.
