Greenwich announces new head of department of public works

James (Jim) Michel is now the new Commissioner of the Department of Public Works (DPW) for the town of Greenwich.

Michel has over 10 years of service to the DPW of Greenwich and many decades of expertise in civil engineering. He joined the town in 2011 and has transformed the infrastructure of Greenwich through securing over $30 million in grants, significant improvements, and introducing technologies of an innovative nature to enhance the public works operations of the town.

Among his accomplishments are an enhancement to an intersection in the historic downtown, the revitalization of a brownfield site along the coast into a public park, and replacing many bridges that have strengthened the transportation network of the town.

Michel has also served as Deputy Commissioner, during which time he led several major projects including the installation of traffic signal technology to ease congestion. He is actively involved in solving problems and believes in collaboration and creativity, which is reflected in his leadership style.

Michel expressed his honor in being trusted to serve the residents of Greenwich as the next Commissioner of the Department of Public Works. He added that he is looking forward to his continued work with the many groups in the community and the team at the DPW to enhance services and infrastructure for the residents.
