A public art sculpture that stands 58 feet high is now at home in Aurora at The Aurora Highlands at Hogan Park Highlands Creek.
“Liberty” is a sculpture that was inspired by the Statue of Liberty. It weighs 37,000 pounds and was created by Michael Benisty, a contemporary artist from Belgium. The statue is constructed from polished stainless steel. Benisty created another polished stainless steel sculpture that is 14 feet tall and depicts a couple embracing. This was installed along with Liberty.
The two statues stand near the future entrance of The Aurora Highlands which is off Interstate 70. This will be a new access point from the park that will enable drivers to directly connect from the Interstate into the community. Banner printing can be used at such sites to inform residents of such plans and their benefits for the community.
Benisty said that with the Liberty statue he was looking to recreate a symbol that is one of the most powerful representing freedom for the next generation. He added that he is honored that this sculpture now has a permanent home where people of all walks of life can be inspired by her message.
Carla Ferreira, Chief Executive Officer of The Aurora Highlands, knew that the statue should be in Aurora and its permanent installation is a milestone for the community.
