What's Happening in Aurora, CO…

Aurora opens former hotel for homeless

The former Crowne Plaza Hotel and Convention Center near the border between Denver and Aurora is now a shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

The shelter will be able to house 640 people. Advance Pathways is a non-profit organization based in Denver and will operate the shelter. Andrew Bogageis is the development director of Advance Pathways.

The space in the facility is separated into several areas. The first tier will serve 300 people whether they have been using any substances and more like dormitory spaces. The second tier has 114 semi-private cubicles for people who agree to receive services from case managers on site. Service providers will work in a large space that once was a ballroom.

The third tier is for people who can upgrade from the second tier or for those who are employed but have no home. This tier has a private hotel room with its own bathroom, dresser, desk, and bed. These people can also watch television, do laundry, and cook a meal in the kitchenette. Bogageis said that the hope is that after some time in this tier that they will be able to find a permanent home.

Poster printing can be used to promote this new facility so those experiencing homelessness will know where to find a home and support.

The shelter will be working with the team at Aurora Street Outreach and other partners will be working with the shelter to find those on streets without homes.
