Three bond measure questions have been approved by the Aurora City Council and will be voted on by residents this fall.
These bond measures are worth $264m and are part of the initiative of Build Up Aurora, which will include the funding of 65 capital improvement projects. In addition to the authorization of the bonds, the measure will increase the sales tax by 0.325%, which amounts to three cents on a purchase of $10.
The capital improvement projects are in four categories: transportation infrastructure, public safety, and community facilities. Among the transportation infrastructure are improvements to traffic signals, installation of roundabouts, neighborhood traffic calming measures, and improvements to sidewalks. The public safety projects include building of a new Fire Station 19, renovations to Fire Stations 2 and 3, and improvements to the police station facility. Projects related to community facilities include construction of new parks, a new northeast Aurora library, and improvements to recreation facilities.
Local Print shops can provide more details on such projects with Flyers, Brochures, and other printed materials.
The City of Aurora is emphasizing fiscal responsibility as it puts the Build Up Aurora infrastructure plan before voters. Developed with extensive public input, the ballot measure was shaped by the Infrastructure Task Force formed last July. Community leaders gathered resident priorities through surveys, events, and public workshops this winter. It will be up to the voters to determine the final list of projects.
