A Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has been approved by the voters of Aurora that will increase efforts to improve the affordability of housing, opportunities for businesses, and safety in the area known as “Original Aurora.”
This DDA will run from Yosemite Street on the western end, the Fitzsimons Urban Renewal Area on the east, East 16th Avenue on the north, and East 14th Avenue on the south. Banner printing can be used in such areas to inform residents of planned improvements and their benefits for a neighborhood.
The DDA is an entity of the government that is separate from the city and defined by statutes of the state. A board appointed by the mayor and confirmed by a majority of the City Council will lead the DDA. Implementation of DDA programs will be supervised by the City Council.
A draft Colfax Community Vision and Action Plan was created over the last year from community input and will serve a roadmap over the long term for revitalizing East Colfax and the surrounding areas of Northwest Aurora. It defines a vision shared by the community and recommends practical steps to achieve that vision.
A Community Development Corporation (CDC) will also be created along with the DDA, and these two organizations will support local businesses, help create public improvements, and protect the character of the area while promoting economic growth that benefits everyone.
